A better approch?

If I have a method that computes the correct answer to a problem, why does it matter whether the method is conceptually correct?
The problem is that the method does not always compute the correct answer, and because there is no conceptual foundation in place, you have no idea when it will be wrong, how much it will be wrong, and why.
I can simplify 16/64 = 1/4 by cancelling the 6's. If you think that was an accident, try cancelling the 9's from 19/95 = 1/5. Shall we teach this method in our schools?
