In general, wouldn't the correct play be the one that maximizes your chances to avoid the gammon against either two or three roll sequences by your opponent? You maximized your chances of avoiding the gammon if you had one roll left, but in doing so did you reduce your chances of avoiding the gammon if you had two rolls left (which is the most likely occurrence)?
