I've seen this time and time again at and near crunch time in games. The coach seems only able to think one or at most two plays at a time.

If he knows that he is going for it on 4th down unless he loses yardage on 3rd down, that opens up more possibilities for 3rd and 2. I see this time and time again and wonder if for most coaches, they didn't make the decision as to whether to go for it, between 3rd and 4th down...ie little foresight.
