I have no problem with this, but it points out the umpteenth reason for clocks.

If you play with clocks, then your opponent has to make a conscious decision whether or not they should be spending time on such a play. That two minutes is charged to them... it doesn't just come out of the ether. Time management is an important skill now -- you have to prioritize what you're going to spend time on. For example, maybe you have one of those gammon-saving plays where you're looking for the best two-roll parlays, and the equity difference is miniscule. In a clocked match, it's just not worth spending two minutes grinding out that calculation. Just guess. Yes, sometimes it's going to make a difference, but it's far more likely that the two minutes you waste is going to cause you to speed up more meaningful decisions later.

In another time-saving approach, I've seen Kit Woolsey sometimes faced with a checker play that's futile, knowing he's going to have to drop a cube in the next roll, not even bother to get that far, just resigning the game by resetting the checkers.
