Pay later. Give white the opportunity to roll one of the less pleasing numbers. The 12 hitters you offer up now could well be an excellent time to pay, however, I am thinking about the 10 pleasing 6s that I want to see, or indeed the opportunity to roll an equally pleasing set myself to clean it all up.

Worst case scenario is of course: Pay later, roll a 62, but thats not a frequent occurrence, much more common would be the sets, or a potentially shot leaving 6 that white exits with.

I have read Nack's and David's arguments for paying now, and I can completely understand them, they make great sense to me. However, I would ask for an explanation as to me how the score isnt a significant influencing factor. In some scenarios when you get hit, there are potential recube situations that could really hurt. Also, on a technical level, I would sincerely doubt that Sticks opponent is as good a player, and I would be more inclined to allow fewer opportunities for him to grab this match by the horns. Even assuming that its bot vs bot here, this has only got to go to 4 or 5 plies (pick your bot) for a pretty definitive answer as to the play choice.
