Why reinvent the wheel.

(a) I don't think I will be, because I hope to come up with a robust program that can answer lots of different questions.

(b) I get a kick out of writing even pointless Monte Carlo simulation programs. I do it all the time when the spirit moves me, and right now, the spirit is moving me to do it for Swiss tournaments. So, I guess even if I am reinventing the wheel, I couldn't care less. I'm free of responsibilities for a month, and I can only play so much backgammon (shocking as that sounds). =)

Why don't you talk to Tom Keith who has already run some extensive simulations on the Double Elim format.

I see he's posted, and I'll probably see what he has done, thanks.

And thanks to all the others who have posted, I've got a great jumping off point.
