"Let's say the plays had rolled out to identical equity. I still can learn something. When strong players post their analyses, often what I find interesting isn't really their conclusions, but the METHODS by which they reach those conclusions."
BINGO!
Learn how to think about positions and learn what things to look for and learn what is more or less important and you'll make better choices more often and that includes the cases where it does make a big difference. Add more tools to your toolbox and you'll be better prepared to solve more problems.
"Anyway, ask any of the big guns here, and I promise you that every last one of them will tell you that 0.016 is not tiny."
I think it is tiny. Of course, casinos are in business because tiny bits of equity add up. But honestly, I don't spend a lot of time worrying about errors of this size. If all of my errors were under .02, I'd average an ER of 1.0 and would be just fine with that. I make enough .08+ errors that I would much rather spend my time figuring out what I was missing there.
In my opinion, the limited time you can afford to spend on analysis of your own play should focus on your largest errors. Use of this forum for learning purposes should focus on learning how to think about positions, scores, whatever.
