I'm not going to burn pips in this close race and let white clean up the two blots just to leave a shot next turn. I'm running the 6. Question is whether to leave the 4 or 1 shot. Being able to make the 4 point seems huge in case we get hit and can hit back. It seems that the extra 4 shots by leaving a 4 are relevant, but reduced in value because they all leave a double shot and because 44 is probably a loser anyway. It also seems that many of the misses play worse when leaving the 4 since white is forced to play in deep from the bar point instead of down from the mid. Of course, if missed, there are 7 numbers that fail to clear instead of just 1, and this is pretty big too. Overall, I think that the ability to make the closed board is a huge difference. Shift the blots so that they are not 3 apart and I play 16/13.
