Even more prime time

That is why people have been playing it as a prop since the beginning of time.
Not to spoil your joke, but I think it's quite an interesting question how that position came about. One presumes that the general concept of putting some of the checkers on the board instead of introducing them one at a time from the bar is another example of the principle that gambling games abhor downtime. Skipping ahead to the middle of the game reduces downtime and therefore makes the gambling action more exciting. But does anybody know how exactly this particular position came to be the standard one?
