Where 8/5 7/6 goes wrong is that it fails to ask the question "if white rolls a 5 or a 6 and runs with a checker from the 23 point, would you rather be hit or not"? I strongly believe that you want to be hit here.
I didn't pose that question explicitly in my last message, but I did ask myself that question. It's not clear to me what the answer is. If Black does escape a checker, then Black may acquire decent chances of winning going forwards. If we allow ourselves to be hit, then Black might succeed in containing our back checker. We've left ourselves with only a four-prime, so Black might start popping other checkers free while we're busy trying to rescue our back checker. I'm inclined for these reasons not to invite getting hit if we go with the plan of clearing instead of priming.
