XG Backgame Bungle?

IMO, 10/9 8/5 (as played by XG, XGR, XGR+ and Gnu and confirmed in a XG rollout) is a HORRENDOUS move, and attempts to rationalize it elsewhere in this thread are fruitless and even misleading (albeit unintentionally).

My guess is that in the look-aheads and rollouts the bots are clearing White's 8pt and 7pt as quickly as they can (perhaps sometimes leaving a direct shot) -- the points they don't seem to want to have in the first place, which means White will be playing 6s and 5s faster with the remaining outer board checkers (which with correctly play should be piling themselves up on the wonderful 8pt and 7pt), and also allowing Black to freely spring out with 6s and/or 5s if/when he chooses. Both aspects could make a big difference in Black's timing.

Black would (should) love to run a back checker here; it removes any timing worries he might have. He would (should) also LOVE to hit a checker or two, judiciously slot in front of White and watch her try to get back around without hitting anything, and in some cases contain White and go forward -- it's virtually a free shot and then some, assuming the two-way chances are reasonably milked rather than BOTched.

I believe the best chance to get a decent rollout for this position is on Snowie. That doesn't mean one should worship the final rankings and margins of the plays, but with luck one might get a result that somewhat resembles reality, and the standout play (10/7 9/8) should at least come out on top.
