There are three common ways I am likely to win: (1)escaping without being hit and then improving my position; (2)escaping after being hit-loose and hitting back; (3)having my opponent's board collapse. There are other variations some of which are a combination of the above and I will call them 'others'. I see two choices (5,3) and (2). If I escape without being hit there is not a big difference between the two plays, although I would slightly prefer (5,3). (5,3) caters to number(3) and 'others' because it is less gappy and should contain slightly better, when you are hit-loose, hit-back, and are not return-hit. But, it will be return-hit more often. (2) caters to making a four-point board more often, after a hit-back of his loose-hit, and to having fewer direct returns, but it will cause your opponent to crack less often. I would probably opt for (2) because of the immediate gain of having a stronger board and fewer direct returns more often after a hit-back rather than the delayed gain of slightly better containment.
