I play the 55 like you did, leaving no shots.

With the 51 I'll volunteer a 44 and a 41 from the bar, noting the open 4 and 5 points on the other side of the board.

Breaking the 6 point is also an option, but I'd rather pay now as I'll be almost home free if I succeed and if not then I'll still be up in the race and a favourite to get straight in while holding the best board.
