Your two examples well demonstrate the difference between money and DMP. For money, leave the 3 shots both times for the extra gammons; for DMP, leave no shots both times.
In the second situation, if Black pays now he is hit with 3/36 plus (33/36 x [66 65 64 54] x 11) if White enters with a 4 -- about 178/1296 so far plus small stuff. By contrast, if Black pays safe and White enters with a 4, Black is hit [66 55 64 54 62 52] times 11 = 110/1296 as the biggest shot clump, and that assumes the worst entry comparison, so there's no way the rest can bridge the gap of 68/1296 including the difference in residual (and weaker-board-if-hit is a very small factor). It's not close in the relative sense.
