In Response To: Capturing an iGammon/Backgammon NJ position. (W Womack)

I can't speak for iGammon, but here are some test results for Backgammon NJ.

I tested Backgammon NJ versus GNU Backgammon 0-ply to gauge its strength. After a few manually played matches, GNU's 2-ply analysis rated Backgammon NJ (on its strongest level) at a FIBS rating of 2015 with a Snowie error rate of -1.3. Compare that with GNU itself which had a FIBS rating of 2033 with a Snowie error rate of -0.8.

In another test, I programmed Backgammon NJ to play versus GNU Backgammon 0-ply automatically in a series of cubeless money games to test the checkerplay. In 300000 games, Backgammon NJ averaged -0.01 points per game. I don't know how that figure would translate into a rating or error rate.
