It sounds like Bart's cards have nailed those positions pretty well..
Thanks for your insight, Nack.
Your explanations makes a good deal of sense to me. And Bart's cards do indeed accord closely with the 55s you mention:
52S-55A-F-C (2 up): D/P
52S-55A-F-C (1 up, 1 down to 2 or 4pnt): ND/T
52S-55A-F-C (1 up, 1 down to 5pnt): D/T
62S-55A-F-C: D/P
63S-55A-F-C: D/P
64S-55A-F-C: D/P
Interestingly, Brooks classes the following 55s as ND/T:
65R-55A-F-C
51S-55A-F-C
41S-55A-F-C
21S-55A-F-C
In contrast, 54S-55A-F-C is apparently D/T.
The only difference between the 54S and 51S cases is the remaining checker on the 5pnt and 2pnt respectively. Why should the deeper (potential) anchor be worse for black here? Maybe because if black points with 42,22 etc, he makes a great point and hits?
