I discovered that Tom Keith's article has a downloadable file of 50,000 positions. So I should be able to answer my own question with a little bit of programming. Hopefully I'll be able to do that soon and will post the results.

It seems that there is an opportunity here to come up with something more accurate than the Keith Count and easier to use than the Pipple Count. At the least, it would be good to get some feeling for which kinds of positions the Keith Count doesn't work well on.
