The alternatives here include 1)23/13 23/18(2) which leaves 6 shots on the mid plus 65 which gets both men out and makes the 16-point. I think that's a few too many jokerish shots to leave. 2)23/13(2). Makes the mid but leaves your straggler open to attack from (duped)6s and 4s. 3) 23/3x. Less committal than the above plays since it keeps your 4-prime intact and doesn't leave any jokers. It's no big deal at all if Black rolls a 3 and hits. If Black doesn't hit, the checker is a little out of play. 4) 23/13 8/3x(2). Not bad but it might be too early to try to win going (sort of) forwards. You don't gain much if Black fans and it might be too early to trade the 8 for the 3-point.

Not at all sure but I'd try the non-committal play of hitting loose on the 3-point.
