5-2 to screw up...

The hit looks essential to me. We have a stronger board and are well behind in the race. I don't want black anchoring on the 3 point (or 7 point), or making his 5 point or making a clean escape with one of the back checkers. Getting hit here is not desirable, but it is not that awful either. The question is what to do for the 2 after 8/3*?
13/11, 11/9 or 3/1* seem to be the contenders. 8/6 seems too passive.
Of the three, I'd reject 3/1* first. I'd think it wins more gammons, but it is tough to follow up - there are few immediate covers if missed, and with only 9 checkers in the zone, it will be difficult to blitz. So it seems it will lose too many games in the process.
11/9 will be better when missed, and 13/11 will be better when hit. The double hits after 11/9 are particularly crushing. And note that non-hitting entries like 14 24 and 16 may leave other opportunities besides making the 3 point. Since being missed leaves us in great shape to do something constructive no matter how it is played, and closing in on a cube especially with a dance, I am more inclined to maximize my winning chances in the case of a hit. Blot reduction plus the additional 11 point asset works well in that case, and the 3s which fail to enter are working to remake the 8 point.
8/3* 13/11
