Have you looked at Tools...Folder Options...View Tab when you have the directory open in Windows Explorer? (on XP, I don't know about Vista.)

Check that Show Hidden Files and Folders is set.

I don't know why sgf files wouldn't be shown even without this option, but maybe it's worth a try.
