Chiva, please explain format

In Response To: BIG tournament thought experiment (Chiva Tafazzoli)

Some players want to make plans now, perhaps catching an airline special to save 100 bucks or so, etc.

So please, if lets us all know what the format is and if it at all different from conventional, please explain in detail.

I'll be blunt and state that if some players don't care for the format, they may choose not to attend, and if some players don't understand the format, they also may choose to not attend.
