I have no idea about Windows 7 but what you're describing and most of the GG problems I've heard about are caused from not running the program as the administrator. So make sure you're logged in as administrator on your computer and the next time you open the program do so by finding the program in your list or in its folder, right clicking over the icon, and selecting 'run as administrator'. I'm not sure if this will clear up your issue or not but it's worth a try.
