I have two rules:

1. It is wrong to run off your only advanced anchor with one checker when your opponent is not on the bar.

2. It is wrong to run off your only advanced anchor with one checker when your opponent is not on the bar.

All rules have exceptions.

When the current position appears to be an exception to rule 1, then apply rule 2 instead. And vice versa.
