Endgame double 2's

I don't think you gain enough in speed to justify taking four off the 2pt or two off (5/3 4/off 2/off), considering the extra chance of being hit. It's pretty easy to see that four off is wrong. Even two off looks dubious (given that we have safer plays available), as 64 54 leave double shots, and 43 33 leave single shots (and 42 41 leave a gap).

That narrows it down to one checker off (5/3(3) 2/off), and no checkers off (5/3(3) 4/2). The former leaves a shot on 65 64 54 33, and the latter leaves a shot on 63 53 43 33. That's the same, so it must be right to take the checker off -- mainly to win more gammons but also to win more games after being hit. The concept of double jeopardy is overrated.

Morever, with 5/3(3) 4/2 you only get to take one checker off instead of two off next turn with 62 52 42, and 66 55 44 leave you odd instead of even on the 3pt; hmm... I doubt that move is even second best.

In short, it's 5/3(3) 2/off for me.
