Blue's position is bad enough that I think the hit 8/3* is necessary.

Given that Blue then has to leave a blot in the home board, I think 6/3 is the best 3, giving Blue the most ways to cover the blot if missed. There's not much hope of containing White's blot by priming, so Blue's plan has to be to blitz. In a blitz, a point is a point. The 3-point is not much worse than the 6-point; cover numbers matter more.
