My OTB play is yours (3*,5). I hadn't seen the switch until reading your post. However I really like it. Aside from all the benefits you point out, we need to look at this as a potential crunch position if a 6 doesn't come soon. Switching to a lower point now has longer term value in preserving homeboard strength in that case. It also gives more numbers that lift the blot if that is desired.
