Looks like a big bad pass to me.

The defender has neither his 6pt nor his 3pt and can never form a prime. The leader may never get hit, but even if he does get hit, he will retain significant winning chances.

Without getting into the John O'Hagan number crunching (gammon prices, etc), it should be obvious that the defender has to pass a lot earlier at this score than for money. Losing a gammon on a 4-cube efficiently puts the defender down 1-10 Crawford. Better to pass and concede the two points.
