Clocks

I completely agree with Bill. In my opinion clocks should be compulsory in all serious backgammon events. There is nothing worse than waiting hours and hours for a match to finish or for an opponent to work out how to play an opening 31! I know this is a debate that has gone on for a while here. In London virtually all serious play is now on clocks and no-one that I know of who has been unable to adjust.
In my match verses Jeremy I took a quick break at DMP. Usually I would write the time down on the clock but I didn't as:
1) It was only going to be a very short break;
2) We both had plenty of time left (5 minutes or so at DMP).
When I came back to the table I looked at the clock and it was clear that Jeremy's time had been running. As we were at DMP and both play reasonably quickly anyway (and so would not delay others waiting on the match) it seemed sensible to keep hitting the clock but ignore the time control. In this instance it made no difference but I guess the lesson here is always write down the time if you take a break.
