All it takes is a 3 hour 11 pt match to muck up the schedule

Larry and Ed's match 1st round match took 3 hours as you said. Therefore that side of the bracket was delayed. The delay was made worse when in the next round Harvey and Larry forgot to unpause the clock after a bathroom break. Eventually I noticed this and informed Patrick. Larry's clocked matches had two seconds more delay time than others to help him compensate for some mobility issues and I have no problem with that.
I played Harvey in round 3, on a clock, of course since things were really delayed. People can say what they want about Harvey's slow play, but I think I used a bit more time than he did on the clock.
My match with Paul ended at 12:44 AM and could have gone longer since I was about 99% to win the doubled game when trailing 8-9 which would have made it 10-9C. Good match, Paul, and you played well and deserved to win and I caught my fair share of lucky parleys as well.
Anyhow, since I lost I was able to play at the scheduled 10:30 am, which still really didn't give me as much sleep and rest as I'd liked, but the schedule was moved ahead so that the winner, Paul had to play at 10 am.
The point Paul and I are making is that we were subjected to playing very late and (it could've been later) and he was forced to start early Sunday, due to no fault of our own. Had the staff clocked the likely slow rd 1 match from the getgo or been more attentive in realizing that it was progressing at a snail's pace, the event would've been less delayed.
People may think that this delay wasn't serious, and I have to state that pre-clocks things were often MUCH worse. I have been forced to start at 12:45am and play a slow player until I lost at 2:30 am and then been forced to start next morning's conso near money rd at 9:30 after telling the director who wanted to change the start time from 10:30 to 9 am that unless he made it later I was never playing another one of his events. In that event from the 90's my forced early Sun start time was so the Last Chance would flow smoothly... WTF get rid of Last Chances in two day events or at least make them progressive like in NM, but 5 pt matches rather than 7 pt.
I could tell 3 or 4 more stories like the above paragraph from the pre-clock days.
More and more I get frustrated with the delays caused by slow play and players wandering off for long breaks, showing up late for side events after dinner etc etc. As each tourney passes, and with nearly half of them having the same BS, I wonder why I keep playing.
Anyhow, Santa Fe was the LAST time I EVER play a Championship level event without a clock. As for the future, if I haven't nearly retired from live play, in 2011 and beyond I seriously doubt that I will ever play a Champ level event that isn't clock mandatory.
Note to the Monte Carlo directors...make Championship clock mandatory or forget about ever seeing me there again.
