How is the gammon going to be won here? Hitting a third checker is unlikely so it would have to either come from trapping the ace point game or just racing it home. But neither of those plans has a high success rate and will both entail risk that you would probably not want to take. You would probably be cashing down the road rather than face the risks of him hitting a shot or racing out with 66 so just cash now and not risk anything meanwhile.
