I was more concerned with the abstract than the specific. The point is that different tables will have different values at some points. In this case, GST has 4 and the fictional minimal wastage table has 5. I'm sure everyone realizes that I picked 38 pips because the GST did not agree with minimal wastage at this point. The two will agree more often than not.

There are two items being discussed.

1. What table should be used as the point of last take?

2. What method such as Trice or N57 should be used to reproduce the table at the board without memorizing all of the entries?

GST relates to question #1. N57 relates to question #2. The whole discussion began with point #2 and has shifted to discussing both at once. My post is aimed entirely at question #1.
