Your thought process reminds me of tewari. Did you develop this approach from your Go experience?

Yes, that's an apt analogy!

For those who have never heard of "tewari," it is defined as

Tewari
A method of analysis in which one changes the order of moves in a sequence and removes superfluous stones in order to evaluate the basic structure.

The game of Go is 5000 years old and has many terrific concepts that carry over to other games.
