I've been competing at multiple games for approximately 25 years. And, I have concluded:

1. Playing other games doesn't help one's Backgammon as much as spending the time directly on Backgammon would.

2. Playing other games DOES help one's Backgammon to some degree. I pulled out of a slump in mid-2009 when I discovered some things I was doing wrong at Backgammon while I was playing in a Chess tournament.

And, there are few things as pleasing as applying a concept from one game to another. I was pretty excited when I spotted what looked like a Go concept in Nack's analysis.
