The bookie really shouldn't be playing in the event, IMHO. The implications for conflicts of interest are staggering.

I say this while I am sure that nothing improper will occur, it certainly is possible that not all will feel that way.

I try hard to manage my life so that I minimize any potential for conflicts of interest and also I try hard to minimize any chances that others may come believe that I have conflicts of interest.

The bookie playing in the event certainly doesn't serve to minimize the chances that other players or bettors may think that he has a conflict of interest.
