Evidently, there are limits to the boldness that you're entitled to even when you outboard your opponent 5 to 2. Strengthen White's front position by lifting White's blot to White's 4-point, and according to GNU 4-ply, even bar/22 13/8 is too bold, and bar/20 4/1 comes out on top.

Sure, there's a limit, and your alternative position is worthwhile to mention, but I hope you weren't implying that lifting White's 7pt blot to the 4pt is a minor change. It's huge: the positions are like night and day to me. That's one fewer blot that Blue can hit in many variations, and she can no longer simply cover her 7pt (which is not slotted).

I also find it misleading to say that 7/4 "strengthens" White's frontal position. Given that we know Blue has already rolled 53, I think that if anything 7/4 either weakens White's frontal position when Blue plays 4/1, or it's about a wash if Blue brings a checker down, though I'd probably avoid phrasing it in those terms at all.

In other words, when Opp has a blot in such lop-board positions, aggression is imperative for two critical reasons: White's 7pt blot is both (a) a target that Blue is highly motivated to somehow exploit, and (b) a consolidating asset for White if her other blot is left unchallenged. If you take White's 7pt blot away, then Blue's priorities are massively different -- it's an entirely different problem.

Nack

P.S. There was a typo in my previous post. I meant to say that Blue's board advantage is five points to two -- he has three extra points.
