Another experiment you could try is to see how much you suffer when your XG opponent plays faster. I know that back in the Jellyfish days, I could play against JF5 which was 2ply and basically played instantly, or against JF6, 3ply, whoch took some time moving, and I would always do better against JF6 than against JF5.
