I can't think of an easy way to determine if .004 is large enough to be important or not. One possibility is to take a sizable random sample of decisions that arise over the next 10 ply or so and do rollouts to see how big the evaluation errors typically are and in which direction. You'd need pretty extensive rollouts to catch all the small errors. (And even those rollouts wouldn't be conclusive.)

Presumably you'd only have to roll out the close decisions, but you have to be careful where to draw the line. You don't want to miss any big errors!
