Ken's document is excellent and a useful service for those that own their own clock and for tournament directors. However, I don't think the point was that a TD loan a clock to a participant and the player goes through and sets all the U1 to U5 settings.

I think when the TD loans a clock it is his responsibility to hand the clock to the player in a 'ready-to-go' mode with everything selected correct, whether the TD uses U1-U5 presets or just sets the clock manually for the length of match about to begin.
