Question about tournament rules

I am Chairman of the The US Backgammon Federation Rules and Ethics Committee which is working on exactly the same thing. Our committee is looking at all the different rules and doing a study to see which ones are written best and if there is a better way to write the current rules to see that they all agree, and to see that the meaning is clear. We are also working on a more detailed "guide" for tournament play to better explain the intent of the rules, how to apply them, how to deal with violations, and how to apply reasonable sportsmanship and fair play.

We look forward to working with you and all other federations so that we, too, are not reinventing the wheel. By separate email I will send you exactly what you have asked for....where to find the US Rules, BIBA, WBF etc., and I invite you to give us any thoughts or suggestions you might have in this area.

We want to stress that it is NOT our intent to make or recommend rule changes at this time (even though many on the committee, including myself, have many rules would would like to see changed), but simply to see that the existing rules are written clearly and written well so there are fewer misunderstandings between players and directors.
