OTB I was going to play 21/16 21/17 (liking that a bit better than 21/16 17/13) but then when I reconsidered hitting I couldn't resist it since 6 of his 22 hits crack his board and leave a blot sitting over there. After hitting I lifted to cut down the blot count and his double hitters.

The RO says that I should've stuck with my first instinct (as is so often correct for me) and played passively for now, blocking his high dubs. It also says that if I hit, I should just go for the gusto and not lift, so as to be better able to fill my board if he misses.

In the game after I hit, Steve hopped with 61 and I missed him a few times and he won easily.

Students who use XG and have fast computers should note the use of something stronger than 3 ply to study endgames.
