Battle of the anchors

And I'm not well-positioned for a back game. So, what's my game plan here?

Don't feed us your lies trying to get us to make a poor play. While you aren't currently down enough pips to play this backgame that can be remedied. The biggest note of the position for me is not that my opponent currently can't be attacked or primed because he owns the 20pt anchor but his made two point. Two dead checkers against what I should be able to turn into a strong 3-4 backgame.

This is a play some think is a tough play and I call it easy because all you're going to do is narrow out the moves you know you can't even consider and you'll be left with what's best. Here's how I go through it:

  • My 3-4 backgame can be powerful since he can't prime me and he has already killed off 2 of his checkers, no way I run off the anchor and trap myself into a 3pt game.
  • The 10pt is a nice blocking point and these checkers may in the future turn into attackers. Too valuable to give that up.
  • The only way I can play a checker from the 8pt is to play 8/3* and that leaves me completely stripped and doesn't accomplish much. This play is not to my liking to that leaves moving anything from the 8pt out.

I don't know if that's helpful to anyone but it's the quick checklist that gets crossed off while I examine positions. In doing that I see that I can only move from the midpoint or the 6pt. This would narrow my candidates down to 13/11 13/10, 13/10 6/4, and 6/4 6/3*. If there's some other trash move I've ignored it's because it's obviously trash.

I'm trying to create timing, get a couple of blots thrown back around the board and it will make my opponent play while I push guys around the board waiting for him to break anchor then I smash his face. This leads me to wanting to leave multiple blots and putting checkers where they belong. These two factors eliminate 13/11 13/10 from my equation and now I'm down to only two plays.

Of the two it feels to me as if 6/4 6/3* forces me to get hit more often (which I want) even though 13/10 6/4 feels like the smoother position. I need timing, if I get timing this game is mine eventually. 6/4 6/3* for me.

It should be noted that if all is missed and I end up making these points in order the game is likely to go a different route where I leave my back anchor, the 22pt, and hope to get my opponent on the bar and keep him there with my board as he's sure to leave shot after shot after shot trying to bring this position home with no outfield landing points.
