Saturday morning speech in Pittsburgh

I think we're all getting a little off the point here. The speech that Ray gave would have been just as inappropriate hurtful whether he was the No. 1 player or the No. 500 player in the game. One of the biggest ironies of his talk was that he said he put Pat Gibson and me on his Giants list because of what we do to promote the game of backgammon, so he obviously has a high regard for promoting backgammon in a positive way, and yet, here he is, clearly saying, publicly, in front of a large audience, and in front of many new players, things that clearly give backgammon a horrible image.
As someone stated earlier, there is dirty laundry and bad things in all sports, games, businesses, organizations, etc., and they need to be dealt with. But they need to be handled in a positive manner; in a fair manner; and not by projecting the worst about the game to the public.
Like David, I am inspired by Ray's skills, and even more by his ability to win ove the board by playing to his opponents' weaknesses probably as well as anyone in the game (I suspect there are many with lower ER's than Ray who don't match Ray's W/L record), but that has nothing to do with what is appropriate and good for the promoting of the game, and what is respectful to the tournament and prize organizers and participants at the Pittsburgh event.
