1. What is the point of paying the 8th spot? It seems more equitable just to cut it off at 7. The 8th guy has to win two or three matches more than the 5th-7th place finishers. Of course, dividing the prize money is easier with 8 places.

Main reason was that I wanted to have 8 cash instead of 7, but not because the math was easier. Someone on here keeps lamenting that more players should cash. Dividing by 20 instead of 19 to calculate ABT points was a bonus I hadn't planned for.

2. Are the 16 player brackets useful? Or could you just as easily run a straight Swiss with all the players? It seems to me (although I could be wrong) that having the brackets increases the chances of getting a particularly lucky or unlucky draw.

The brackets were all about saving time. I leave the statistics to statisticians they make me a little woozy. I know that we didn't get the six Saturday rounds finished until around 1am, perhaps a little before, so saving some time was important.
