I agree Phil that taking a shot is why this action is usually interpreted as a double.
As I mentioned in another reply on this thread, I was Player B in this case and did not want to see the cube so I didn't make a squeak.
I subscribe to Stick's philosophy where I don't budge until the cube is clearly turned anyway, and I am pretty stoic across the board at all times, so the shot wouldn't have worked.
And, in this particular case, although player A will remain anonymous, I do not feel that he was in any way at all trying to take a shot. Player A is a player with a stellar reputation, and this occurred during a grueling match at the end of a long day. He probably knew at the time that his action was borderline, but we didn't even discuss it as I remained silent.
I merely brought up the scenario to get a rules discussion going.
