I agree that pretending you're going to double to try to get a reaction from your opponent is not good form. But I don't see anything wrong with the type of normal actions you might make while thinking about doubling. I'm thinking of things like pausing to consider, looking at the doubling cube, reaching for the cube, or even touching the cube.

Worse, in my opinion, is an opponent who tries to force you into a premature decision by insisting that actions you make other than those specified by the rules are equivalent to doubling. It's your turn, after all; it's your clock that is running. Opponent should be patient and wait his turn.

Of course doubler has responsibilities too. When you double, do it in a decisive manner. Place the cube in front of your opponent and say "I double" out loud. Then there won't be any doubt.
