I see David's point about supporting ABT events, whether they be local or otherwise. I also see Neil's point about his right to skip any event where he doesn't like the format or ANY OTHER REASON he feels appropriate.

It's also a "free country" in that anyone has the right to criticize anyone or anything they want to for any reason they want.

HOWEVER, there is a difference between deciding not to go to a tournament because you don't like the format, and influencing others to do the same because you don't like the format.

If you don't like the auctioneer of a Calcutta and you choose not to go, you should not go. But if you organize a boycott and attempt to influence others, in my opinion, you have done something that hurts the game and you've gone too far.

You don't like the format enough to stay home....stay home. But let others decide for themselves if they like it or not and don't hurt the tournament organizers from attracting people by airing negativity publicly in a manner that will encourage others to stay away as well.

Neil, the very fact that you won't be there is a major blow to any tournament, and that, combined with others of us who might express our disappointment with the format, should have a strong influence on future tournaments that might consider such a format.

We don't have that many major tournaments and great tournament directors (talking about Howard, here, of course) that we can afford to undermine their efforts, even though we don't agree with all of their decisions.
