I remember a time when individuals would first air their tournament complaints with the director rather than lodging public complaints. Paul had that opportunity when he phoned me one day before the tournament to "call in sick" and cancel his $600 seat in the Grand Crystal Beaver.

The Beaver semifinals are scheduled for 9:00 am on Saturday to finish prior to the Calcutta Auction at 11:00 am. On Friday night, players are given the option of playing their semifinal match. At 10:15 pm Malcolm Davis and Danny Zamost did just that. But on the other side, Californian Mark Antranikian reached the semi's first and rather than wait for the O'Hagan quarterfinal match to finish, chose the 9 am start and went to bed.

O'Hagan won his quarterfinal match around 11:30 pm and on Saturday defeated Antranikian just minutes before the Calcutta began. Imagine if that match hadn't been played? John could be facing two Beaver 11 point matches and two matches (13 and 15 points) in the Championship.
