My guess is that taking a man off at the expense of an extra shot is worth it. Even if you lost an extra 1/2 game on the extra hit, you should be able to get that back on the 19 times you are hit with either play and have the extra man off. It would only have to matter one out of 38 games. I think it would matter more often than that. I would play 6-5*, 5 off.
