Seems relatively clear to me as if you hit almost all of White's rolls either hit back or make the 20 or 21 pt. If you make the 10pt then he still has a liability on the 2pt and you can win a priming game since you have builders in place and he has 3 checkers back.

If you bring a spare down to White's bar point then you no longer lead in the race, there are more covers for the 2 point, more men in the zone, and you stand a much better chance of getting attacked/primed yourself. All that points to hitting.
