17/16* is possible but it seems that it makes it too easy for Black to keep me dancing and extend his prime in the meantime.

This puts two of Black's men in the air leaving 21 shots removing the checkers that are anywhere near the zone, specifically the man at the back of his prime. Let's say he hits one of your checkers, which he's favored to do - now you're facing a 3pt board and rumor has it you enter a lot on your first shake here. I don't see how it makes anything easy for Black. He will never break the bar point to attack in his inner board unless he makes a point doing so so hitting twice has taken all the steam out of his offense.

Looking at this as a possible backgame is hopeless. When you see this position you should think "I want to toss checkers into the outfield while my opponent has nothing to punish me with on his deeper yet to be made inner board points" because your timing and position are both shot for a backgame. (more importantly is your opponent's strength already against a possible backgame) You need to toss checkers into the outfield, get some flex, and probably end up playing a 22pt anchor game.
